the memory of second mughal emperor of India. Royal Mausoleum was the first
garden tomb built in Indian sub continent and also become inspiration for the
architects to built Taj Mahal. Tomb was commissioned
by Humayuns wife Bega Begum in 1569 and designed by Persian architects Mirak
Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad.
Humayun’s tomb is inspired by the Persian, Turkish and
Indian artwork and situated in the centre of 120,000 square meter garden complex on a
high stone platform. The garden complex is a typical Persian char bagh garden style
with quadrilateral layout. The royal mausoleum is made up of red and yellow
sandstone with white and black marble. The tomb is 47 metres high and 91 metres
wide with the 42.5 metres Persian double dome and topped by 6 metres
(20 ft) high brass finial ending in a crescent.
