Humayun's Tomb

One of the glorious and must visit site of Delhi City Tour along with other heritage sites of Delhi. Humayun’s Tomb, built in 1570 in the memory of second mughal emperor of India. Royal Mausoleum was the first garden tomb built in Indian sub continent and also become inspiration for the architects to built Taj Mahal.  Tomb was commissioned by Humayuns wife Bega Begum in 1569 and designed by Persian architects Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad.

Humayun’s tomb is inspired by the Persian, Turkish and Indian artwork and situated in the centre of 120,000 square meter garden complex on a high stone platform. The garden complex is a typical Persian char bagh garden style with quadrilateral layout. The royal mausoleum is made up of red and yellow sandstone with white and black marble. The tomb is 47 metres high and 91 metres wide with the 42.5 metres Persian double dome and topped by 6 metres (20 ft) high brass finial ending in a crescent.

Taj Mahal - Must visit site of India

A massive ivory white marble mausoleum complex on the bank of Yamuna River in Agra commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in 1632. Taj Mahal was built in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, a Persian princess who died by the giving birth of her 14th child. Taj Mahal houses tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan.

Artwork of Taj Mahal is a finest example of Persian and early Mughal architecture which make Taj Mahal the best example of Mughal artwork and symbol of rich India’s history. Artwork of Taj Mahal complex is inspired by Delhi’s Jama Masjid, Humayun’s tomb, Itmad ud daulah and Gur-e Amir. Construction of Taj Mahal began on 1632 and it took 21 years to complete with the cost of 32 million rupees ($ 827 million). 

The Taj Mahal was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 for being "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage”. The Taj Mahal is a must visit monument in India approximately 7 to 8 million international and domestic visitor visit Taj Mahal every year. In 2007, Taj Mahal was declared a winner of the New7Wonders of the World.
