Jal Mahal (Water Palace) a
picturesque palace located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake Jaipur Rajasthan. A spectacular
palace in Jaipur showcasing royal rajput craftsmanship of 18 century India
however, Water Palace is one of the palaces of India which didn’t have and records
of construction. It is popularly believed that Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh
constructed Jal Mahal in 1799 and use as a hunting lodge. Some people believe construction
of this palace done in 1750 by Maharaja Madho Singh I as a summer palace for
royal family.
The palace is a five storied building built in red sandstone. The four
floors of water palace are always underwater and the top floor and terrace
garden is exposed. Four elaborate octagonal designed chhatris on the four
corners of the palace and a huge Bengal-style rectangular chhatri on the roof
of the palace beautify the palace.
Today, Jal Mahal count as a must visit site of Jaipur among with Amer Fort and
City Palace.
